Chinese restrictions from January will hit UK recycling efforts and risk plastic waste being stockpiled or ending up in landfill, warns industry leaders.
A spate of major fires at waste recycling sites in Wales has led to calls for tougher regulation.
The UK needs significant additional Energy from Waste (EfW) infrastructure to fill the landfill capacity gap, according to a review published by the Environmental Services Association.
Around 500 tonnes of waste has been dumped illegally in just 10 days at a site in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. Waste specialist WasteSafe Services said that travellers are thought to be responsible for the fly-tipping.
